Rajendra College (Autonomous), Balangir, a premier centre of education of Odisha, was one of the first new Colleges not only to be affiliated to Sambalpur University set up in 1944 but a significant Constituent College that the incipient University required for its own recognition as the first University of the State. The College has a hallowed history and a sprawling geography of it own.
The College is situated at a distance of four kilometers from the Balangir Railway Station towards Patnagarh and Harishankar and is adjacent to the State highway no 43. At present, the College commands a huge campus with separate buildings for the faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce. Located at an idyllic setting, the College stands aloof from the din and bustle of the town and therefore makes itself an ideal destination for the quiet and serenity of higher education. Surrounded by ancient hills that lend it a green panoramic view, the College never fails to exalt the spirit of its students and staff towards pursuing excellence in their chosen areas. Notwithstanding some of the temporary setbacks and obscurations, Rajendra College (Autonomous) has a proud record as a pillar of eminence in the educational improvement of Western Odisha.
As Balangir is officially recognised as a Backward District of the State of Odisha, it needs to tone up its resources in general and human resources in particular. Rajendra (Autonomous) College has the most important role to play in this regard and it stands committed to ushering in a radical transformation in all its academic and administrative activities. It aims at improving the quality of the teaching-learning process starting from the undergraduate level. To cope with the demands of the age of science and technology and to face successfully the challenges of globalization, it is laying great stress on computer and internet literacy among its teachers and administrators. Further, in keeping with the glorious tradition and culture of India the College is alert to the needs of value based education. The strategy is to achieve a kind of academic excellence that will be integral, holistic and interdisciplinary and promote healthy practices in its academic and administrative ambience.
To achieve its goals and objectives the College is going to introduce maximum possible flexibility and diversity of courses in addition to introducing new elements in its syllabi. As an innovative step, modular curriculum has already been introduced in Post Graduate and Under Graduate levels. Tutorial classes for disadvantaged students and special classes for advanced learners are given to improve their capacity for learning. Training in Computer and internet literacy is imparted free of cost to the members of both teaching and non teaching staff. The College has an effective internal mechanism to control quality and ensure transparency in education and administration. The opening of separate grievance cells for students and employees is a noteworthy step in this direction.
